Easter 2012

Easter was pretty fun this year~ bittersweet, but fun.  I've been told that everything is going to be "bittersweet" from now on...I believe it.  But Mom wants us to carry on, so carry on we will...

Beau had a good time dying and hunting eggs.  He got tired of hunting for the eggs after about 2 minutes and started shaking them to see if anything was in it.  If there wasn't anything, he would throw it back in the yard and move on to the next!  He was soon over it and onto his new favorite sport~ Golf!

The rest of the day was spent watching The Masters.  It was a really nice, relaxing Sunday and a great end to a much needed Spring Break for me.

Enjoy the many, many pictures and videos!

Beau pushed Landon around on this forever!  He was so cautious and sweet with her, and she LOVED it!!

Look at me!!  I'm cute!

They are best friends!

Happy Birthday Poppy!!

My amazing dad turned the big 5-9 on the 31st!  While he was out returning his new LCD big screen for the LED that he really wanted, we blew up balloons and did some good 'ol fashioned decorating.  Beau LOVED the balloons and loved the cake and all day long he would yell, "HAPPY BIRDAY, POPPY!!!"  Frazer baked the angelfood cake.  The same cake dad always had growing up and the same one Mom always made him.  It was Frazer's first time making one!  We LOVE you Frazer!!  It tasted AMAZING!  To top off the night, the Jayhawks won and therefore made it to the championship game!

Her sweet mom dressed her in a Jayhawk shirt just for Poppy!  Look at that cute little bow in her hair!

A few of my favorite things

I've been having some late nights the past month or so..partly Beau to blame, partly my wondering mind.. During these late nights, I've come across some great blogs while aimlessly surfing the net.  A cool thing that one of my favorite bloggers Bethany Joy Lenz does is an edition called, "Wardrobe Wednesday."  I figured that I will spare you my wardrobes for now...even on my "best" days I'm just not that fashionable.  I'd prefer to say that I have a "classic" style but either way, maybe some day I will do a "Wardrobe Wednesday" edition to my blog like my BFF but for now I will settle with sharing some of my favorite things!  I'm going to call this "Favorites Friday!"  So let's get started~

Here are some things that have made me happy lately:
1.)  My new Keurig!  I LOVE this little contraption!  I have to admit that I was hesitant about it at first.  All that boiled down to was the fact that I hate change and when I got it as a lovely gift from my mother-in-law, well, let's just say that a lot of stuff had been changing. :(  But, I have now gotten addicted and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it and all the cool, different flavors of coffee you can get to go with it!!  You can have one too!  Get your 20% off coupon for Bed Bath and Beyond and go get one for yourself.  Or maybe you will be lucky enough to get one as a gift too.  Enjoy!

2.)  This is another of my favorite things!  I got this idea on Pinterest.  I have a note card for each day of the year and they are divided monthly by various postcards.  Some of the postcards are different places we have visited~ Punta Cana- Our honeymoon, Chicago- one year anniversary trip, The Georgia Aquarium- took Beau there on Paige's birthday this past year, and some old Atlanta ones that Mom found from the Olympics in 1996.  So, on each card I write the year and a little blurb about our simple, every day life.  The hope is that I will add to it each year and I will be able to look back and be reminded of the simplest, little memories of our life.  Here's all you need if you want to make your own~ a small box (we got this for Christmas from a gift set from Harry and David and it worked for me for now!), 5x7 note cards, postcards or pictures to use as dividers, and 5 minutes at the end of everyday to reflect and write down a memory of that day!

3.) For the final favorite of this week, I wanted to share with you this amazing silhouette that we had made.  This was made by a third generation silhouette artist named Erik Johnson.  I can't find a direct website for him but google him and see if he'll be in your area.  He was amazing!  He sat Beau on a stool, had Nemo playing (which was perfect because he had just become obsessed with it!), and spent about 5 minutes cutting this out with teeny, tiny scissors.  He was even able to get Landon's, even though she is so little and could hardly sit still very long (she's perfect, though, and did a great job!).  They both turned out so beautifully, and we got them done just in time for my mom to see them.  She had talked about, for as long as I can remember, that she regretted not getting our silhouettes done when we were little.  She had wanted to do Beau's and Landon's and frame them facing each other.  I saw this man was going to be at Koo Koo Bear in Roswell on March 10.  It was the perfect, last gift to give the best woman I will ever know.  And now that side-by-side frame of the babes hangs on my parent's gallery wall in the entryway.  Thanks, Sir, for making her wish come true.  :)

Hope you have a fantastic Friday.  Beau and I are going to finish our chololate chip muffins and head to the playground in my parent's neighborhood if it doesn't rain~ a great last day of Spring Break 2012, if you ask me!

Take that Martha Stewart!

One of the last few days we had together with Mom, she wanted us to re-do her baskets on the fence and front door.  They were still decorated for winter so I went to Hobby Lobby and got hydrangeas and sunflowers, all 50% off of course, and did some decorating.  Take a look!  They look good if I should say so myself.  By the way, I went back yesterday and did my door just like Mom's.  Sunflowers and hydrangeas, and one million other things that I will get to later, always will remind me of Mom.

Here is Mom's "winter" arrangement.  I LOVE it and will try and re-create it next year but she sure had a way with things like this.

Here's the one I put together for spring!  definitely not near as awesome as what Mom would have done but I'll get there one day.

And here's the front door~ 6 sunflowers for the 6 of us.  :(

Services for Mom

As we all know by now, God got an angel on the morning of March 15.  My mom.  I still don't have the words to write about any of this, although I hope to be able to do her justice in writing at some point.  However, I do think it's important to post some pictures from this time.

The services and the turn out of all those who love my mom were amazing to say the least.  We saw people we had not seen in years.  The line was out the door at the funeral home with all those waiting their turn to shake my dad's hand.  He did such an amazing job.  Everything was perfect.  Just as Mom would have wanted.  The only thing missing was the woman of the hour.  Lisa.  If she had been there (although it would have been at a different venue) that gathering would have lasted days!  I could just imagine what she would have looked like, greating all the friends she has ever had.  She would have loved it.

On Monday, we had a beautiful service at the church.  It was so sureal but so amazing at the same time.  Our ministers did such a beautiful job really capturing the essence of Mom.

We certainly enjoyed having so many guests at the house, too.  The weather was so beautiful.  Mom would have loved to seen so many kids and adults enjoying the beautiful day and her beautiful home.

Here are some pictures that I took.  I wish I had taken more.
Cute little rivals!  UNC vs. KU!

Fight Like a Girl

Mom told us at the very beginning of all of this that she wasn't going to allow this to define her and she never wants it to define any of us.  I just LOVE this song and I am finding so much strength in it's powerful lyrics.  When I'm wanting to curl up in a corner and cry all day, I think about what you said, Mom, and about what this song say,s and I hold my head high.  I know you have fought like a girl...no better yet a WOMAN.  But not just any woman...THE STRONGEST, MOST COURAGEOUS, FUNNIEST, WITTIEST, MOST LOVING, CARING, EPITOMEOF MOM AND WIFE AND GRANDMOTHER, MOST AMAZING WOMAN I WILL EVER KNOW AND PRAY I CAN BE JUST LIKE YOU, BEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD...WOMAN.  That is what you are Mom.  And so many more things.  "As long as I'm living my mommy you'll be."  (PS~ I can NEVER read that story again!)

Bomshel - Fight Like A Girl lyrics

Little girl alone on the playground
Tired of gettin' teased and gettin' pushed around
Wishin' she was invisible
To them

She ran home cryin'
"Why do they hate me?"
And Mama wiped the tears and said
"Baby, you're brave and you're beautiful.
So, hold your head high.
Don't ever let 'em define
The light in your eyes.
Love yourself, give them Hell.
You can take on this world.
You just stand and be strong
And then fight
Like a girl."

At 31 she was wheelin' and dealin'
Kept on hittin' that same glass ceilin'
She was never gonna be one of the boys, no
She coulda gave up on her ambition
And spent the rest of her life just wishin'
Instead she listened to her mama's voice sayin'

"Hold your head high.
Don't ever let 'em define
The light in your eyes.
Love yourself, give them Hell.
You can take on this world.
You just stand and be strong
And then fight
Like a girl."

Oh, with style and grace
Kick ass and take names

Ten years of climbin' that ladder
Oh, but money and power don't matter
When the doctor said "the cancer spread"
She holds on tight to her husband and babies
And says "this is just another test God gave me.
And I know just how to handle this"

I'll hold my head high
I'll never let this define
The light in my eyes
Love myself, give it Hell
I'll take on this world
If I stand and be strong
No, I'll never give up
I will conquer with love
And I'll fight like
Like a girl

Ooh
(I especially LOVE the last part.  You sure have conquered this with so much love, Mom.  I love you.)
